Trevor Daniel

On his overall outlook about him, how it is replacing a GOAT, his adjustments to learning the pro game, and learning the art of holding for place kicks

  • Had a great relationship with Shane Lechler
  • Working with Trevor to improve to get to that level of comfort
  • Building strong relationships with the other specialists is crucial to long term success
  • Believes that Trevor will be a punter in the league for many years

Ka’imi Fairbairn

On how John Christian Ka’iminoeauloameka’ikeokekumupa’a Fairbairn is made up mentally, and how he truly is cool as a cucumber

  • Has a great relationship, and Jon considers him a very good friend
  • His face and demeanor on a miss, is the same on a make
  • His mentality is what all 32 teams in the league are looking for in a kicker
  • The moment is never too big or too small for him
  • He has a short memory, he knows you can’t live and die on each kick – each is their individual battle
  • Like with Trevor, he thinks he’ll be in the league for a long time

Special Teams

The two discuss how the special teams this year has gelled, and how key additions and contributions have turned around the special teams in such a short time

  • They have a great locker room, where every guy is playing for each other – they have all bought in
  • That is big for special teams, because every yard counts on skill plays
  • They all take their job very seriously, and the team does from the top down
  • Jon mentions how Justin Reid has been fantastic in the role of a personal protector
  • A.J. Moore has been a standout as a rookie in the gunner role

Family Ties

  • Jon discusses his daughter Parker Grace – which happens to also be YoungAriGold’s son’s name!

Pre-Game Routine

  • What does a typical game day look like
    • A normal noon game, he gets to the stadium early – doesn’t like to feel rushed
    • Mental work and mental repetition, mental focusing he’s (so much of football is mental)
    • Gets dressed, and hits the field visualizing snapping field goals and punts
    • Steps, breath, hand placement,
  • Relaxes with the guys pre-game – and enjoys the game
  • Plays the “goal post game” with Ka’imi
  • It is all about staying relaxed
  • Listening to comedians – Daniel Tosh on repeat
  • Seinfeldhead! Yada yada yada… snap the ball!

What About BoB?

  • Bill O’Brien is a great coach, and he has a great relationship with him
  • He loves playing for BoB, and he will “run through a wall” for the man
  • He has loved every second he has played for him – can’t say enough good about him

Personal Tidbits

  • Was in training to be an EMT when called by the Texans for a tryout, and he was working as a firefighter
  • Was spotted at an open specialist combine in Arizona
  • An all-region offensive and defensive lineman for Mountain Ridge High School in Glendale, Ariz.
  • Two-way player of the year selection
  • Friday Night Fever Defensive Line Player of the Year
  • Received the Curley Culp Award as Arizona’s best defensive lineman
  • Mountain Ridge recorded four straight winning records during his prep career and captured regional titles in both 2000 and 2002
  • Mountain Lions went 24-2 during Weeks’ last two seasons, which included a 14-1 mark and a state semifinal appearance as a junior in 2002
  • Loves Houston, it is now their home
